SESSION 17 – BUY THE FUTURE

Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your descendants I will give this land.” And there he built an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him. Genesis 12:8

Abram who later became Abraham obeyed God’s instruction to leave the land of Haran and go the unknown area called Canaan. Abraham was already a wealth man with a lot of possessions. On face value this might have seemed like an easy instruction but it isn’t when you consider that Haran was a well-developed city and that all his relatives lived there.

However, God was helping Abraham to have a generational perspective of prosperity, with all this material possessions. If Abraham had chosen to stay in Haran with all his wealth, his descendants would not have benefited from his prosperity.

The promise was first made to Abraham (Genesis 15:18-21), then confirmed to his son Isaac (Genesis 26:3), and then to Isaac’s son Jacob (Genesis 28:13), Abraham’s grandson. The promised land was described in terms of the territory from the River of Egypt to the Euphrates river (Exodus 23:31).

Benefits of having land

  1. You can expand without limitations
  2. Your children can inherit that land
  3. You can build permanent structures
  4. You can dig wells that will serve many generations to come
  5. You can build Walls of protections around the cities
